EARDLY, Joseph Michael "Mike" age 74 of Beaverton, Michigan, formerly of Miami County, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014 after a short illness. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to William and Florence (Hogan) Eardly on August 3, 1939. He graduated from Chaminade Catholic High School, Dayton, Ohio in 1957. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1958 to 1962 aboard an Ice Breaker in Charlevioux, Michigan and Detroit Michigan. He married the love of his life, the former Nancy Kelley at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Adrian, Michigan on November 4, 1961. At the time of his death, they had enjoyed 52 1/2 years of marriage. Mike is survived by his wife Nancy and four children: son, C. Kelley (Sandra) Eardly of Troy, Ohio, daughter, Bridget Eardly of Toledo, Ohio, son, Shawn (Lisa) Eardly of Vandalia, Ohio and son, Brendan Eardly of Sidney, Ohio; three grandchildren: Crystal Eardly, Kara Eardly and Doug Eardly; two great grandchildren: Cayden Eardly and Hazel Lanza. Siblings include Patricia (Ed) Takahara of South Dakota, Mary Therese Montagnini of Michigan, Florence (Patrick) Flanagan of Ohio, Jim (Peggy) Eardly of Texas, Ray (Donna) Eardly of Ohio, Dan (Jan) Eardly of Pennsylvania, Melissa (Jack) Poe of Arizona, Rita (Ray) Zemanek of Ohio; sisters-in-law: Kathy Eardly of Indiana and Liz Eardly of Ohio; brothers-in-law: Earl Kelley of Michigan and Gerald (Mariam) Ganun of Minnesota. Mike is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brother William Donald Eardly, John Thomas Eardly, Mark Gerard Eardly and sister-in-law Stephanie Eardly. Mike enjoyed playing golf and fishing in Canada with his two sets of "fishing buddies". In his younger years, he played church softball and volleyball. In later years, Mike and Nancy enjoyed going to local music concerts and programs in Midland, Michigan, going to 50's Sock Hop dances and taking in the sights of upper Michigan. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandson Doug and watching him play hockey. For 21 years Mike and Nancy successfully owned and operated Home Comfort Furniture Store in Troy and Tipp City, Ohio along with their three sons. Mike was a member of Church of the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, West Milton, Ohio and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edenville, Michigan. He was a member of the American Legion, Midland, Michigan, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Beaverton, Michigan, Loyal Order of Moose, Estey, Michigan and Knights of Columbus, Edenville, Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30AM Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Church of the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church 972 S. Main St., West Milton, Ohio with the Rev. Fr. John D. MacQuarrie officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8PM Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Baird Funeral Home, 555 N.
