News Death Notice

COCHRAN, R. Anita passed away in Centerville on July 3, 2014. She was 88 years old. Anita attended the University of Steubenville and the University of Dayton, receiving a Master's Degree in English. She was a technical editor for NCR and, later, for the University of Dayton Research Institute. In addition, Anita taught English as an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton for several years. In 1955, Anita married Bud T. Cochran, who became a professor at the University of Dayton. Together they had four children. Their eldest son, Shawn, passed away in 2001, and Bud passed away in 2008. A devoted mother and wife, Anita's first thoughts were always the well being of her family. Anita and Bud were active in the civil rights struggles of the 1960's, including working for the integration of Catholic schools. In their retirement years, Anita partnered with Bud's extensive charitable endeavors with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She remained a generous supporter of innumerable charitable causes to the end of her life. Anita is survived by her daughters, Molly and Colleen of Boston; her son, Scott, of Florida; and her daughter in law, Julie, of Centerville, as well as seven grandchildren: Tim, Elizabeth, Kelly, Lisa, Shawn, Amelia, and Colin. In addition, Anita leaves many devoted nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7th at Reis Legacy Center Meyer-Boehmer Chapel, 6661 Clyo Road, Centerville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8th at St. Leonard Chapel, Centerville.
