News Death Notice

SADON, Arlene (Grossen) Age 93, of Dayton, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Friendship Village. She was born November 15, 1920, in New Waterford, Ohio, to her parents William B. & Blanche Edna (Smith) Grossen. Arlene was a nature lover, bird watcher, avid reader and remained active and fiercely independent past her 90th birthday. She was a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church, singing in the choir for many years. She was a docent at the Aullwood Audubon Center and Bruckner Nature Center and took great pride introducing youth to the joys of nature. She also volunteered at the Dayton International Airport where she would give children a tour of the planes and airport. She served as Yeoman, Third Class in the United States Navy Reserve-Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (W.A.V.E.S) during World War II and was stationed at Jacksonville, FL, and Hutchinson, KS. Prior to serving in the Navy, she worked as a riveter of Firestone Aircraft in Akron, Ohio. She later worked for and retired from the Acme food store chain. She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 siblings. She will be missed and remembered by her great niece Debbie & Don Greier; great great nieces Melissa and Olivia Grier, great great nephew Neil Greier; great great great niece Aayden. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aullwood Audubon Center, 1000 Aullwood Rd, Dayton, OH 45414.
