News Death Notice

DAVIS, Frederick Ray Age 76 of Englewood, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital following a brief illness. How do you summarize a man's life in a column? He was born in 1937 in Huntington, West Virginia to the late L. Frederick and Lucille Davis. He was a graduate of Great Lakes College, Sinclair Community College, and Capital University. He worked as a Medical Technologist for many local hospitals. Following his retirement, he became Grandpa's Taxi Service for his four grandchildren; over the years he attended countless piano recitals, soccer games, tennis matches, cross country meets, gymnastics classes, show choir competitions and other school events. He was a man of many interests; he attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Englewood, was a Master Mason with the Huntington Masonic Lodge #83, the Clan of the Wolf (Scottish Re-enactment group), Rough Riders Cowboy slow action shooters, WACO RC Club and the WACO Historical Society, and a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed fishing, bow and muzzle loader hunting, John Wayne movies, and Irish music. In his younger years, he enjoyed needlepoint and beadwork. He loved to read and was especially interested in the Civil War. Many of his adventures were shared with his best friend, Russ Berry, and a special thanks goes out to him for keeping Fred's life interesting. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and friend who kept his promises and always took care of his family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Catherine (Sohaney) Davis, daughter and son-in-law: Susan Davis-Brown MD and Shawn Brown PhD, grandchildren: Anna, Matthew, Nikolas and Justin Brown, sister-in-law: Margaret Jean Crider of KY, brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Emmalea & Louie Sohaney of IL, other family members and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood) with Father Jim Seibert C.P.P.S. officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Englewood.
