HARRIS, Sr., Lorenzo Was born in Opelika, AL on November 4, 1927 and passed on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Dayton VA Hospice. Lorenzo graduated from Dayton Dunbar High School in 1947. He graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration in 1951. He was drafted in 1951 and served in the United States Army. Lorenzo was the owner and President of Ren's Supermarkets Inc.; owner of Rice and Ren's Co.; Partner and President of HEGH Associates; and served on the Board of Directors of White Villa Grocers Inc. Lorenzo was a devoted Christian and attended Summit Christian Church and served as a Deacon, Elder, Church School Superintendent and former President of the Congregation. Moreover, he served on the following Board of Directors: Mary Scott Nursing Center (Treasurer) Emeritus, Dayton Chapter of NAACP (Treasurer), Better Business Bureau, Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Community Advisory Council, Visiting Nurses Association, Health and Planning Council, Big Brothers Association, United Way, Dayton Black Business Association and many more not listed. Lorenzo was preceded in death by his first wife, Birdie Harris; parents, Pearl Harris Crawford and George McClinton; daughter, Loretta Johnson; two brothers, Dorris Harris and Kirley Crawford Sr.; four sisters, Maerine Dinkins, Eva Crawford Johnson, Bernice Crawford Carrasco and Alverna Crawford. Lorenzo is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Nadine Harris of Dayton; five sons, Bruce Harris (Vickie) of Oklahoma, Lowell Harris (Trina) of Dayton, Johnnie Welborne (Lily) of Texas, Gregory Welborne of Dayton and Lorenzo Harris Jr. (Juanita) of New Jersey; two brothers, Jackie Crawford of Dayton and Michael Crawford of New York; three sisters, Verline McDowell of Kentucky, Mary Lois Pruitt (Robert) of Dayton and Mattie Clarke of New York; special niece, Roberta Parker of Dayton, devoted son-in law, Charles Johnson; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many dear friends. Visitation 4 to 8 pm Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 North Gettysburg Avenue. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service 10 am Friday, August 29, 2014 at Summit Christian Church, 4021 Denlinger Road, Trotwood, OH. Pastor Shelby Walker officiating. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
