News Death Notice
DAYTON, Freda Pauline died early Tues. morning, 7/20/2010 following a protracted battle with lymphoma. Born on 11/27/1916, Freda worked for and retired from the City of Dayton having served as secretary for the City Manager's office. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Saunders, husband Charles L. Smith, husband Francis L. Dayton, brother Grant Saunders, sisters Golda DiSantis and Beryl Bridgewater, and grandson Scott Coombs. Freda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Myrna and Richard Cunningham, daughter Diane Medzviega, granddaughters Julia Coombs and Therese Medzviega and son-in-law James Medzviega. Freda loved her dear friends Marybelle, Linda, Margie, Louise and Gladys. Freda was a charter member of the Community Methodist Church. The family will hold a private memorial service in celebration of this remarkable woman's life at a date to be determined. Friends will be contacted by phone with particulars. The family wishes to express its appreciation for the many nurses and staff of The Hospice of Dayton for their unflagging compassion and tender care of Freda during the last months of her life, most especially Maria, Sandy and Diana. Contributions in honor of Freda may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or The Hospice of Dayton.
