BARKER, Mrs. Gladys Smith departed this life suddenly, Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Born in Jefferson City, TN, she resided in Dayton over 70 years, and was employed by Boyd Construction as secretary and Dayton Public School system as a bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Mollie Smith; her husband, Willie E. "Jap" Barker; (1) sister, Mattie Bulliner; (3) brothers, McDonald (Mack), Spencer (Bill), and Frank Edward Smith; (2) daughters, Rosemary Blasingame and Dorothy Walker (Rice). She leaves to cherish her memory (3) sons: Olious "Billy" (LaVonne) , William "Leonard" (Beverly), and Frank Anthony "Tony" (Carolyn) Barker; (3) sisters: devoted sister Marlene Eskridge of Dayton, OH; Nannie Lamar Hopper of Oliver Spring, TN, and Mary Frances Henderson of Oakridge, TN; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; two great-great; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Nurse Alan and other staff at the Assisted Living program at Friendship Village. Memorial Service 11:00a.m., Monday, November 29, 2010, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church with Father Benjamin Speare Hardy, II officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment at Dayton National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church building fund.
