Laszlo Posevitz Obituary

News Death Notice

POSEVITZ, Laszlo D.O. (1941-2010) FACOS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 28, at home after battling multiple health issues. He was surrounded by his family members. Dr. Posevitz' life and medical career were filled with many accomplishments and successes. A native of Hungary, he came to Dayton with the help of his uncle in 1957. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, he graduated from the University of Dayton. He was accepted at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1968. He completed his internship in surgical training at Grandview Medical Center; then studied thoracic-cardiovascular surgery in Budapest, Hungary and at Cincinnati's Jewish Hospital. He received additional vascular surgery training in Montpellier, France. Dr. Posevitz was a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American College of Angiology and the International College of Angiology. He's a former Chief of Staff for Grandview Hospital (1985-86), where he was also Chairman of the Department of Thoracic-Cardiovascular Surgery (1986-1995) and General Surgery (2005-present). Through his knowledge, skill and talent, Dr. Posevitz truly was a pioneer and leader in vascular surgery, establishing the first vascular laboratory in Ohio at Grandview. He is especially known for bringing vascular laser surgery to Ohio and surrounding states after having spent a sabbatical in Arizona where he first learned the technique. He introduced and taught physicians in southwestern Ohio and the tri-state area about the laser and its use in vascular surgery. In 2004, Dr. Posevitz was presented with Grandview Medical Center's Distinguished Service Award (DSA) to honor him for contributions made to the growth and academic excellence of Grandview and Southview Hospitals, the medical staff and the osteopathic profession. Dr. Posevitz was also instrumental to the development of Grandview's vascular surgery fellowship program. To recognize his contribution to graduate medical education, Dr. Posevitz was awarded the Grandview Legacy Award in 2009. To memorialize Dr. Posevitz' long and distinguished career as a physician and educator, the Posevitz Vascular Surgery Fellowship will be named in his honor. Dr. Posevitz is survived by Gabriella, his wife of 38 years; sons Anthony and Christopher; daughter Cica and husband, Chris, and grandchildren Carter and Ava. The family will receive friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Avenue at Rahn Rd. I am truly sorry to hear of your loss. I was a patient of his when I was 15 years old. I had a pulmonary embolism and would not be here today if it were not for him. He was a wonderful doctor and truly cared about his patients. I lost my mother the same week as you lost your father, it is not easy to go on without them. Please know that he touched many lives and will never be forgotten. Mary (Sanborn) Lazarus, Helena Montana

"Posey" was one of the very first and most brilliant physicians I had the pleasure of working with. As a freshly grduated R.N. working in the ER and ICU, he taught me more than I learned in 7 years of school. I lost a dear friend and I was proud to call him friend. I offer my most sincere condolences to his entire blessed family. He will remain in our thoughts and prayers for all eternity. May God bless you all and give you peace and strength,

It was such an honor to work with "Posey". He taught me so
much when I was charge nurse of the old 6100 S. Med-Surg &
Renal /Oncology floor. He cared so deeply for his pts. and always took time to teach the staff, as well. No question was a dumb question to him. He heard me play the piano once at a wedding and he never failed to stop and tell his students how much he enjoyed listening to my music. I will never forget this kind, heart-of-gold man, who before every surgery when we made rounds together would say,"It is in the hands of Someone Higher than I". Then he would point toward Heaven. To the family of Dr. Posevitz, he taught me never to expect anything but the best from my children. It proved to be a good philosophy. May God bless you all. Sincerely, Trudy
Flory, R.N.

To The Posevitz family;
I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to your entire family. I was honored to have worked for Dr. Posevitz in 1988-90. He was a great mentor and boss. He passionately loved his work, and his kindness and the care he showed to his patients and his employees was genuine.
He will be sadly missed.

December 4, 2010

Dr. Posevitz saved my husband's life. His other doctors couldn't figure out why his right leg swelled so bad. One of his doctors sent him to Dr. Posevitz. He did tests and x-rays. My husband had had prostate surgery and they had removed one of his lymph glands and that was causing poor circulation. Dr. Posevitz came up with the simple solution of wearing a theraputic stocking. It worked! He was quite a doctor! He was concerned and caring. We will always be grateful to him! You have our deepest sympathy and we are sorry for your great loss.

I considered Pose a good friend of mine. I met him as an Anesthesiology Resident at Grandview Hospital. I later became an attending Anesthesiologist at Grandview and worked with either Pose or Steve Greer on an almost daily basis. We had many EXCITING times in and out of our operating rooms. Some were fun and some were scary. Pose was a phenominal surgeon and a good man. He taught me many thing about medicine but also about life. He an I had many almost EPIC battles of will and judgement. I always thought I was right and he always thought he was right. We were ALWAYS friends again the very next morning as though nothing had ever happened and we had never even spoke a bad word. I left Grandview a few years ago but I have missed Pose.
I had the great pleasure of performing the anesthetic for his heart surgery. We had our battles, we had our laughs, we even had our profound discussions about life. He and I didn't always see eye to eye, but Pose will always be one of the men that I know deep in my soul made me a better man.
Love,
Craig Henry

I met Dr Posevitz when he was a surgical resident at Grandview and I worked on the GYN unit. Since we were both of Hungarian ancestry we had a friendly "connection". Years later Dr Posey performed successful carotid artery surgery on my father. My condolences to his family. He was a remarkable man.

Dr. Posevitz always told you the truth about any health issues. He operated on my father in 1986 and removed part of his lung due to cancer. He told my father that if he did not have this operation he would be dead within 6 months. My father lived for 18 more years without any health restrictions. As a matter of fact he did some repair work at Dr. Posevitz's home. He was a wonderful doctor and will be missed not only by his family and friends but especially by Grandview and Southview Hospitals. Our condolences to the Posevitz family.
