BOWMAN, Elmer L. age 83, of Lewisburg, OH, passed away suddenly on Thursday evening, February 3, 2011 at his home. Born November 16, 1927 in Bee, VA, he as a son of the late Garfield & Laverne (Sutherland) Bowman. A graduate of Haysi High School in VA, he later attended the Detroit Institute of Technology. He served in the US Navy from 1945 - 1947: and was the Owner & President of Spirit Industries in Dayton retiring in 2001. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, golfing and travel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death on July 15, 1991 by beloved wife Olga "Pat" (Combs) Bowman; great grandson Tyler Fint: brothers Eugene and Edwin Bowman and sisters Mabel Taylor and Zinnia Combs. Survived by daughter Tanas L. Bowman of Kettering, OH: step daughters Shari Weidner & husband Bob of Centerville, OH; Wanda Sexton & husband George of Miamisburg, OH; and Jo-Dee Watts & husband Eddie of New Paris, OH: granddaughters Shona Fint, Kelly Higley and Marty Jones: great grandchildren Caroline Freeman, Joseph Freeman, Ashley Cairo and Savannah Higley: sister Bonnie Kiser of Bristol, VA: nieces Linda (Tim) Kirby of Centerville: nephew James (Sandra) Combs of FL: and numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Assn. Interment Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery.
