SMITH, Don L. "Smitty" age 79, of Xenia, has gone to be with his Lord on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born August 20, 1933 in Spring Valley, Ohio, the son of Ernest and Josephine (Steele) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents. Smitty is survived by his loving wife, Donna L. (Cooper) Smith, whom he married April 19, 1990; his children: Mark (Darlene) Smith; Mark (Karen) Muterspaw; Matt Muterspaw; and Dan (Cheryl) Smith; grandchildren: Melanie (Chris) Koogler; Christopher Smith; Luke Muterspaw; Jason, Jacob, Casey Muterspaw; Sam and Nicki Calbresse; 6 great grandchildren; close friends: Jesse Sanders and Tom Davis, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was retired from DP&L Co. where he worked in building maintenance. He was a big Mickey Mouse fan. Smitty loved music and specifically blue grass. He was a sound technician for the Muddy River Band; member of the Cushman Club of America, Vintage Motor Bike Club, Mid Ohio Classic Scooters, and the Old Timers Club. He was a member of the Mt. Holly UMC, and attended Spring Valley UMC. He had a large vinyl record collection. He loved his scooter and the friends in the club. In 1949, he won the Chicken of Tomorrow contest , with a chicken he raised for Horace and Susan Wright. He never met a stranger and will be remembered for his sense of humor. He was a loving husband and father. Funeral services will be held 1 pm Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Interment to follow at the Spring Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6 pm - 8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Spring Valley Church or the Old Timers Club. The family would like to thank the staffs of Liberty Nursing Home of Xenia and Hospice of Dayton.
