McCOPPIN, Fred Vinton Entered into rest at 9:15 on December 4, 2012, Mr. Fred Vinton McCoppin, 91. Born August 5, 1921 in Carmel (Highland county), Ohio, he was born the 3rd child of 4 children of Ray (30) Arvil and Ruth (23) Brooks Eubanks McCoppin. As a child he lived on several farms around Carmel and Marshall, Ohio and moved to Leesburg in 9th grade. Graduated from Fairfield High School in 1940, he married Dorothy B. Henson on October 12, 1941 at Cleves, Ohio. His first son Garry was born in 1942 in a farmhouse near Leesburg, followed by Richard in 1945 in Hillsboro, Ohio and Joseph in 1947 in Dayton, Ohio. His daughter Pamela Sue was born in 1950 in Dayton, Ohio. He Joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of the Dayton (Ohio) Lodge #147 for 55 years and was a 32 degree Mason and was also a Shriner for 54 years. He owned/operated a fleet of 18 wheelers from 1952 to 1962. He was a salesman/manager of heavy-duty truck sales for 24 years (Hughes White Truck Sales, KOI Kenworth of Cincinnati, and Acles/Jack Roberts GMC, Inc) and sold automobiles (Bob Ross Dodge) for awhile and then retired in 1986. He attended church at the West Carrolton, Ohio Church of the Nazarene. In 1987, he and Dottie moved to St. Cloud, Florida where he was avid fisherman and they moved in 2004 to St. John Towers in Augusta, GA. His wife of 64 years preceded him in death in 2006. He moved to the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in 2012. Survivors include 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A private family service will be held.
