News Death Notice

SEARIGHT, Annie Laura age 77, of Dayton, departed this life Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013. She was born Feb. 4, 1936 in Ft. Deposit, Ala. to Willie and Laura (Golson) Roper who preceded her in death. She attended Calhoun High School and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church (Alabama) and Unity Missionary (New Mission) Baptist Church (Dayton), where she was on the missionary committee and an active choir member in the Harriet Hallelujah Choir. She was employed at Macke Building Services for 20 years before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband George Searight in 1994. Two infant sons: Eddie Charles and Joe Cephus Searight. Eight brothers: Arthur Fred, Willie James, Willie George, Leroy Sr., Joe Foster, John F. Sr., Clifton and Booker T. Roper. Three sisters: Mary Lue Roper, Nancy James and Ella Pugh. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Georgia and Janie Searight, both of Dayton, Ohio. Sons James A. Searight of Rochester, NY. and James E. Ray of Dayton. Nineteen grandchildren including two devoted granddaughters: Ronnika Searight Witmer (Jim) of Troy, Ohio, and Shakira Searight (James White) of Toledo, Ohio. Sisters: Caroline Roper of Dayton and Lueteshia Thomas of Attalla, Ala. Very special niece: Mary Ann Watson of Tampa Fla. and nephew John F. Roper Jr. of Birmingham, Ala. and many cherished nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Annie was a kind, loving and generous soul who will be missed by many. Services will be held at noon Tuesday, Feb. 12 at H. H. Roberts Funeral Home, 38 S. Gettysburg Ave. Dayton. Rev. L. Izaak Ingram officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment at West Memory Gardens.
