News Death Notice

McCORRY, Ruth Addie (Dix) age 92, was a native of Chattanooga, TN. God allowed her to grace this earth on June 22, 1920 and transition to His garden on February 15, 2013. As a teen, she migrated to Ohio along with her late parents, Edgar Dix and Vassie L. Dix Barnes. She graduated from Dunbar High School in the late 1930s. She was affectionately called "Mother" by family, friends, and co-workers. Ruth dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church in 1937 in Dayton, Ohio. As a teen, she joined the Usher Board and later matured into the Mother's Council and First Aid ministries. She was a faithful participant in Sunday School. Ruth gave at least an hour a day to the Lord, through reading the Bible and prayer. Her favorite scripture comes from Psalm 118:24 - This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. She retired from the Dayton Public School system after 20-plus years of service. Ruth enjoyed living with other friends and residents at Hoover Place in Dayton. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Emma Dix and brothers, Joseph, Wayman, and Charles Dix. Cherishing her memory is a devoted brother, Richard Dix of Dayton, OH and sister-in-law, Evelyn Rhoton. Ruth and James "Jimmy" McCorry brought seven wonderful children into this world. They include: Leroy "Spunky" (Norma Jean) McCorry, Patricia Baker, James "Bum" (Betty) McCorry all of Dayton, Phyllis Allen (deceased in 2004), Brittany (David) Sinclair Crockett of Plano, TX, Loretta (Michael) Combs of Fort Worth, TX, and Delores (Theola) Reed, Jr. of Little Elm, TX., and a host of grandchildren, great, and great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
