News Death Notice
SMITH, Elberta H. Age 98, passed away Thursday December 4, 2014. Mrs. Smith was a member or Centerville United Methodist Church and was very active at the Hithergreen Center. She was preceded in death by her parents Hulda and Charles W. Hartmann Sr., and by her husband, George W. Smith Sr.; she is survived by two sons, George (Therese) Smith and Kenneth Smith; grandchildren, Denise, Deborah, Kristin, Caitlin, Michael, Brendan, Bradley and Audrey. Visitation will be Sunday December 14th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave. (Far Hills at Rahn Rd.). Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 3:00. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to: Hithergreen Center, 5900 Hithergreen Dr., Dayton, OH 45429. Online condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com

Elberta was not just a wonderful grandmother to my sister and me she was also a truly great friend. I will always miss your strength, sharp wit and most of all your unconditional love. You did so much for me that showed me just how much you cared. Love you and miss you grandma.

Sweet, sweet Elberta. You were the first friend my Mother made when she moved back to Ohio after losing my Dad in 89. You became her best friend and she loved you so. After Mom's stroke things changed but you stayed her friend and even tho she didn't call or write once she moved to Florida....she thought and talked of you often. I think of you and smile. You were a wonderful woman and you will be sadly missed.

I was so fortunate to have known Elberta. What a kind and loving person she was. I will especially miss the cards and letters she faithfully sent over all these years. My prayers go out to her family and friends who I know will miss her deeply.

In loving memory of my dear grandmother. I will always treasure the memories of sleepovers at your house as a child, drinking black cows while watching TV, and swinging on the big tire swing in the back yard. You will be missed. My deepest sympathies and prayers to all those who love you.
