Wahl, Hazel Morrell - Decatur  
Hazel Morrell Wahl Decatur Funeral for Hazel Evelyn Morrell Wahl will be Wednesday, February 25, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Roselawn. Mrs. Wahl was born on December 7, 1923, to Hattie Miller Morrell and Robert Earl Morrell. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Robert F. Morrell, Ruth Morrell Peoples and Elizabeth Morrell Inscho Smith; and husband, William F. "Bill" or "Ike" Wahl. Mrs. Wahl grew up in Bluff City, Tenn. She earned a bachelor's degree with highest honors in English and journalism in 1944 from King College in Bristol, Tenn. She earned her degree while working almost full-time for the local hospital. Mrs. Wahl also took classes towards a master's degree at Vanderbilt University. After college, Mrs. Wahl joined her sister in Nashville, where she took a job working for the Mead Corp. In Nashville, she met William Francis "Bill" Wahl who lived across the street from her boarding house. They married on June 23, 1945. The Wahls lived in Decatur from 1951 to 1952, moved back to Nashville, and then returned to Decatur permanently in 1960. Mrs. Wahl served as a Sunday school teacher, Training Union leader, Girl Scout leader and volunteer for other community, church and school activities. Mrs. Wahl worked for THE DECATUR DAILY for 21 years, beginning as a proofreader and eventually moving to copy editor and occasionally writing feature stories. She had a broad range of interests, including cooking, painting, golf, reading, and sewing, and she also wrote poetry and children's stories. She and her husband restored an antique pump organ and she taught herself to play it. Mr. and Mrs. Wahl were married for 67 years, until his death in 2012. Mrs. Wahl is survived by her daughters, Francine Wahl Johnson (Edward Lee); Cathy Wahl Tackett (Jack); and son, Michael Robert Wahl (Cathy); grandchildren, Mandy Johnson Heller (Court) of Huntsville; Missy Johnson George (Mark) of Knoxville, Tenn.; Bill Johnson (Becca) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Bill Turk of Atlanta, Ga.; Molly Wahl Davis (James) of Decatur; and Robbie Wahl (Nikki) of Pelham; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Emily Johnson, Kirby Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Ryan Davis, Lucy Davis and Cate Wahl. Betty Mae Wallace Decatur Funeral service for Betty Mae Wallace, age 84, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, February 24, 2015, 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Burningtree Cemetery. Mrs. Wallace, who died Friday, February 20, 2015, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born July 12, 1930, in Independence, Kansas, to Charles Hamilton and Ruth Wingard Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Wallace and her parents. She is survived by two sons, Tim Wallace (Dawn), of Hampton, VA and Robb Wallace (Debra), of Dectur; one sister, Gene Lee, of Bakersfield, CA; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Brian J. Waters Rogersville Brian J. Waters, 48, of Rogersville passed away, Friday, February 20th, 2015, to his Almighty Father on a crisp pre-dawn Alabama winter morning, full of grace and serenity after a nearly six month battle with cancer surrounded by family members and loved ones. He was the much loved son of an ex-Marine father and homemaker mother, brother of five siblings, influential father figure to his stepdaughter, boyfriend of his new-found love, and dearly missed leader of his employees and partner of his colleagues at Sherwin-Williams. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 25th, 2015, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, February 26th, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Athens with Father Charley Alookaran officiating. Interment will follow in Rogersville Funeral Home Cemetery. Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Jean Allie and Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Alice Waters; mother, Joy Jean Waters and uncle, Clarence "Bro" Allie. Mrs. Welch, who passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015, at her residence, was born July 23, 1954, in Morgan County to Spencer Hardin and Bertha Lee Little Hardin. She was a member of Landersville Praise and Worship and was employed by Little Country Kitchen as a cashier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Welch; her parents; son, Gary Drennon Jones Jr.; daughter, Jennifer Melson; and brother, Ricky Hardin. Survivors include a son, Chris Melson (Kisha), daughter, Brandi Lipscomb (Jamie), both of Moulton; brother, Billy Hardin, Decatur; sister, Linda Ratliff (Mike), Georgia; grandson, Drennon Crook; granddaughters, Skylar Lipscomb, Jasmine Harville and Madison Harville; stepsons, Jimmy and Tracy; and stepdaughter, Christy. Pallbearers will be Blake Bolton, Bill Welch, Hollis McCay, David Cochran, Phillip Welch and Farrell Lipscomb.

Wilson, Jane S. - Decatur  
Jane S. Wilson Decatur Jane S. Wilson died peacefully in her sleep at her Decatur residence on Monday, February 16, 2015. She was born July 30, 1926, in Middlesboro, KY, and later moved to Birmingham where she attended Phillips High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. From there, she attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she met the love of her life, Walter S "Pete" Wilson. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Jane was very involved with both the First Baptist Church of Birmingham and later Brookwood Baptist Church in Mountain Brook, where she attended faithfully from July 1969 to August 2000. She was a very devout Christian woman who read her Bible every day. She was a woman of quiet strength who was smart, faithful, loving, caring, and supportive. She was "there" whenever you needed her, and she was loved and respected by many. Jane was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Gladys Stopinski; and brothers, Frank Stopinski Jr. and Bernard Stopinski. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Wilson Meriwether and Jan Wilson Dean (Sammy); one son, Walter Stuart Wilson Jr (Elizabeth); six grandchildren, Emily Meriwether Horne, Sarah Kathleen Meriwether, Samuel Lynn Dean, Trent Wilson Dean, Andrew Stuart Wilson and Mallory Elizabeth Wilson; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Horne, Stephen Anthony Horne and Hadley Grace Dean. Jane was very dedicated to her family and most importantly, put them first in her life. Her family is a living testament of her actions of abundant Love and Caring. She was very involved in their lives attending many, many, many sporting events, recitals and family outings. The Love and Respect her family members hold for her in their hearts are infinite. She is, and will always be, incredibly missed by her family. Jane will be honored by her friends and family on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Brookwood Baptist Church, 3449 Overton Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223. Phone (205) 967-0441. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Memorial service conducted by Dr. Bryant Strain. The family would like to express its appreciation to Riverside Assisted Living and Hospice of the Valley, both located in Decatur, for the wonderful care Jane received.
