Funeral service for Dwight "McKenzie" Jett III, 26, of Decatur will be Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 12:30 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Nicky Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

McKenzie, who died Monday, November 26, 2012, in Morgan County, was born September 23, 1986, in Decatur. He is survived by his parents, Dwight M. Jett Jr. and Karen Dearman Jett; his grandparents, Dwight Jett Sr. and Patricia Craig Jett and Margaret Johnson Dearman, all of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Dearman.

McKenzie graduated from Austin High School in 2004. He was a member of Mallet Assembly Honor's Program at the University of Alabama. He loved Mallet and all the "Malleteers." He graduated from the University of Alabama in 2010. McKenzie continued to be active in the Mallet Assembly after his graduation. He was highly involved in politics and he believed that each of us can make the world a better place. McKenzie was attending the Birmingham School of Law. He intended to return to Decatur and practice law. He was a member of Spring Avenue Church of Christ.

McKenzie died in a single vehicle automobile accident on I-65 near Lacon while returning to school following the Thanksgiving Holidays. If you are late for class, you are late, but it is not worth risking your life or the life of others. His family and friends encourage all drivers to slow down and drive safe.

Pallbearers will be Scott Anderson, Carl Cowart, Brent Henslee, Scotty Porter, Anthony Morgan and Jason Williams. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Mallet Assembly Honor's Program at the University of Alabama. Roll Tide.
