Frank Beaty Wilson

Frank Beaty Wilson of Huntsville passed away last Tuesday evening in his home at the age of 100. He was the son of Dr. Frank B. Wilson and Flora Paxton Doak Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Stuart Peebles Wilson, son, Frank B. Wilson III (Nancy) Bellville, TX, daughter, Patricia W. George (Chuck) of Marietta, GA, son, Michael S. Wilson, Huntsville, and son, Edwin P. Wilson (Karen) of Huntsville. Also, there are nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.
He graduated from Huntsville High School where he was valedictorian and president of his senior class and attended Vanderbilt University
in Nashville. Mr. Wilson's first employment was with the Alabama Power Company and during World War II
he worked at Huntsville (Redstone) Arsenal and received a commendation for meritorious civilian service for his outstanding contribution during the war effort. In the early 1950s, he served as a member of the Huntsville City Council.
In 1958, Mr. Wilson began employment with Huntsville Utilities in a managerial capacity and worked there until his retirement. After retirement from Huntsville Utilities, he was employed for several years as an independent real estate appraiser. His memberships and professional affiliations included the Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce.
Frank had a lifelong membership of over 85 years with the First Presbyterian Church of Huntsville, where he served as deacon and elder. He taught Sunday school for 18 years and served as Sunday school superintendent for six years. He also held the position, clerk of the session, for 14 years and maintained a close relationship with his Sunday school class well into his 100th year.
During his later years, he worked as a volunteer for 15 years delivering meals for "Meals On Wheels" and served at the Downtown Rescue Mission "soup kitchen." A small family service was held Friday afternoon at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. Mark Mueller officiating and Laughlin Service Funeral Home directing. (www.laughlinservice.com
