Funeral service for James "Red" Kirkland Sandlin, 82, of Decatur, will be Friday, September 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Huey Shelton and Brother Zack Terry officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bishop Cemetery.

Mr. Sandlin, who died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at his residence, was born May 25, 1931, in Morgan County to Joel Sandlin and Lily Mae Fletcher Sandlin. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joel T. Sandlin; sister, Bettye Faye Chaffin; and son, Terry K. Sandlin. Mr. Sandlin was a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, after which he taught underwater demolition at West Point. He was a former employee of Chemstrand, Fruehauf, Worthington and he later retired from Amoco.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marcile Terry Sandlin; son, Anthony J. Sandlin (Donna); daughter, Tanya Brown (Bill); daughter-in-law, Maria Burns Sandlin; grandson, Bly Sandlin, all of Decatur; two sisters, Carole Warnick (Larry) of Marion and Pat Stewart (Tommy) of Lewisburg, TN.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
