Margaret Hamilton Adams
A private graveside service was held in Athens Roselawn Cemetery for Margaret Hamilton Adams, 90, of Decatur, on January 11, 2012. Margaret's nephew, Dr. Jon Douglas Strain of Young Harris, Ga., presented the eulogy with family members participating in musical tributes. Arrangements were made by McConnell Funeral Home of Athens.
Margaret Hamilton Adams passed away to her eternal home on January 8, 2012. She was the wife of the late Charles Martin Adams, the mother of Marcia Helen Adams Silva and Margaret Susan Adams Cobb, both of Decatur. She was born in Thomson, Ga., on October 23, 1921, the daughter of the Reverend George W. Hamilton and Bessie Naomi Barton Hamilton.
Mrs. Adams moved to Athens with her family in 1956, living there for many years before moving to Decatur Cedar Springs Senior Campus in 2002. She later moved into Decatur Morningside Assisted Living facility and then into River City Care and Rehabilitation Center of Decatur. She was a full-time mother and volunteer worker until moving to Alabama where she graduated from Athens State University and became a teacher of American History at Athens High School in 1957. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Athens.
She is survived by two daughters, Marcia Silva, Peggy Cobb and husband, John, of Decatur; one grandson, Charles Cunningham and wife, Elizabeth, of Savannah, Ga.; two granddaughters, Stephanie Cunningham of Lebanon, Tenn., and Ashley Cobb of Decatur.
