Funeral services for Mary Helen Terry Montgomery, 91, of Moulton will be Thursday, June 12, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Moulton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Wright officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Montgomery Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Montgomery died June 9, 2014, at her residence. She was born August 22, 1922, to Arthur R. and Annie Patterson Terry of Moulton.

Mrs. Montgomery was a 1940 graduate of Lawrence County High School, where she was a four-time all-county basketball player and was elected Miss LCHS. She completed the beautician's course at Woodall Institute in Birmingham, and worked as a beautician until she moved to Oakland, California, in 1943, with her husband who was serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She worked for JCPenney while in Oakland and upon their return to Moulton in 1946, she worked for A.C. "Cline" Terry Dry Goods. In 1956, she and her husband opened Montgomery Furniture and Appliance and they worked side by side until their retirement in 1985. She was a devoted wife and mother and during her retirement her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

She was a faithful member of Mount Moriah Methodist Church and Moulton First United Methodist Church for a total of over 80 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years, Thomas Paul Montgomery; sisters, Virgie Terry Montgomery, Bertha Terry Sanderson, Berlin Terry Sanderson, Vera Terry Butler; and brothers, Dee Terry and Birtice Terry.

She is survived by two sons, Andy Montgomery (Laurie) of Moulton and Harry Montgomery (Mary Jane) of Moulton; three grandchildren, Robert Montgomery (Sara) of Moulton, Carson Montgomery of Burbank, California, and Meredith Montgomery of Auburn; and one great-grandson, Jimmie Ray Montgomery of Moulton.

Pallbearers will be Clay Almon, Dwight Sanderson, Arthur Warren Sanderson, Willard Terry, Richard I. Proctor, Onnie Faulkner and Bobby Scott.
