James 'Jimmy' Brown


James "Jimmy" Brown, 68, formerly of Douglas, died Saturday, January 18, 2014. He was born February 16, 1945, in Alabama to James Newman "Sprout" Brown and Elvie Gerome Long Brown.

He was a 1963 graduate of Douglas High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Mr. Brown worked for Brown and Root, Inc. and was a member of Somerville Baptist Church. He was a longtime resident of Morgan County. He was preceded in death by his son, James Ashley Brown; his parents; one brother, Ronald Brown and brother-in-law, John Weems.

Survivors include his wife, Tracy Brown; one daughter, Sonya Troxtel of Gadsden; stepchildren, Dara Carnes of Douglas, John Neal of Trinity and Michelle Couey of Gadsden; grandchildren, Jessica Bailey, Justin Carnes, Tate Neal, Talon Neal, Andrew Couey, Brooke Couey, Kyle Troxtel, Kaley Troxtel and Alexis Brown; great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Brown Weems and Susan Blankenship, both of Oneonta; sister-in-law, Debra Brown of Douglas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

David Lewis, Josh Grubbs and Moses Clark, Music Minister from First Baptist Church, Oneonta, will conduct the funeral service from the chapel of Snead Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 1 p.m. with interment in Zion Hill Cemetery. The body will be at the church from 11 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Register, Dusty Register, Jason Brown, Russell Brown, Justin Carnes and Mike Graben.
