James Nathaniel Burks, 73, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel, Trinity, with the Rev. Ian Butler and Pastor Anthony Tyler officiating. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
James was born June 29, 1939, to Pruitt and Janora Wilson Burks in Moulton. He was a graduate of Lawrence County High School, attended and was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Moulton and was a member of the Lawrence County Classic Tractor and Engine Club. He retired after 31 years from International Paper Mill, Courtland. James was loving, faithful and devoted husband and father who always provided for his family. He enjoyed farming all his life. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and a Tide Pride member. He enjoyed going to the games for many years and cheering on the Crimson Tide. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cora Jean Burks Yarbrough.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann Harp Burks; two daughters, Tammy Burks, Decatur and Jill Burks Vess (Tharol), Moulton; one step grandson, Dakota Vess and one stepgreat- grandson, Justin Vess, Moulton; one sister, Betty Gail Palmer, Topeka, Kansas.
He was well respected and loved by so many. He loved animals especially his two cats, Toby and Tiger.
Pallbearers will be Dakota Vess, Josh Long, W.L. Early, Dwight Sandlin, Nathan Hazel and Jimmy Hazel.
