Memorial service for Larry Ballentine, 73, of Hartselle will be Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor John H. Ninke and Bernard H. Ansorge officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Ballentine died on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at his residence. He was born June 22, 1940, in Pottawatomie County, KS, to Merle Mitchell Ballentine and Mamie Brunko Ballentine. He was a dedicated and charter member of Christ our Redeemer Lutheran Church and loved his Lord Jesus Christ dearly.
Mr. Ballentine was an engineer at Boeing Military Airplane Company for nearly 30 years. He was an avid tennis player at Huntsville and Decatur tennis centers and a master gardener. Larry often tutored children in multiple courses as a service to his church community. He was diagnosed with the ALS (Lou Gehrig's) disease in December of 2011, and continued to fight this disease throughout the remainder of his life. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ruth Ballentine; one son, Todd Ballentine and wife, Laura Ann, of Meridianville; one daughter, Cynthia Jo Peebles and husband, Michael Raymond of Huntsville; three sisters, Dene Myers, Wichita, KS, Donna Doles, Rio Rancho, NM and Janice Doxtator, Stevens Point, WI; three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the ALS Association or to Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
