Mary Jane Strattner-Gregory, PhD

January 4, 1923 - February 26, 2017

Mary Jane Strattner-Gregory, of Hockessin, DE, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away at the age of 94. Mary Jane was the devoted wife of the late Arthur J. Gregory for 34 years. She is survived by her brother Richard Strattner with his wife Nina, of Pearl River, NY, step-daughter Andrea Gregory-Schoen with her husband Gary of Murphys, CA, step-son Starke Gregory with his wife Betsy of Mechanicsburg, PA, and dear friend Melda Newman with her husband Michael of Garnet Valley, PA. Mary Jane has been a wonderful grandmother to 3 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and a loving aunt to 20 Strattner/Vandenburgh nieces and nephews. Time and adventure with her family was her primary focus. She always found time to write encouraging notes and make thoughtful phone calls to stay close with family & friends. Mary Jane was a dedicated and beloved member of the St. Mary of Assumption church community where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was the recipient of the Diocese Medal of Merit award.

Dr. Strattner-Gregory received her doctorate in Child Development and Family Relations at Cornell University in 1963. After a long career as an educator at the University of Delaware and beyond, she served as a member of many volunteer organizations, including groups working to improve child-care, multiple church committees and Hospice. Mary Jane took her work & curiosity to countries all over the globe. She was an avid world traveler & active world citizen her entire life. Family & friends across the globe will miss her spirit, and remember her beautiful smile ... until we meet again.

In celebration of Mary Jane's life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:30 am, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, 19707. A reception for family and friends will be held at Cokesbury Village, 726 Loveville Rd., Hockessin, beginning with the family's arrival, after a private burial, at approximately 12:15 pm. All are welcome to attend the reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice, or to St. Mary of the Assumption.
