Thomas Robert Elsman
AGE: 81 • Greenville
Thomas Robert Elsman passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Country House in Greenville, DE. Tom was born in 1932 in East Orange, NJ., to Theodore Reginald Elsman and Dorothy Gitler Elsman.
He received his BS in Commerce & Finance from Bucknell University where he was President of Phi Kappa Psi and a member of Delta Mu Delta Economics Honorary. He received his MBA from the University of Delaware in 1960 which led to his job in international distribution with DuPont and the opportunity to travel around the world. He was a member of the National Council of Physical Distribution Management.
Tom held several positions with DuPont including Manager of International Operations for the Photo Products Department and Manager of Strategic Planning for the Imaging Systems Department. He retired in 1992 after 38 years of service with DuPont. He met his future wife, Joanne Steinbright, at Bucknell in 1953 with whom he enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Theodore Reginald Elsman, Jr.; and son-in-law, David Brady who passed on September 11. In addition to his wife, Joanne, he is survived by their three children: Kenneth Robert Elsman and his wife Gerry Glenn of Kennett Square, PA., Carol Elsman Cutler and her husband Carl of Villanova, PA., and Jennifer Brady Cieszko and her husband Peter of New Canaan, CT. He was affectionately known as "Bebop" to his eleven grandchildren.
Tom enjoyed bowling, golf and fishing off of his Grady White in Avalon in the summer and winters in the Florida Keys. His family wishes to thank the staff of the Country House Health Center and Vitas Hospice for their excellent care of Tom during his final months.
There will be a private interment service at Christ Church Christiana Hundred. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Tom's memory to National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR), 4600 East West Highway, Suite 525, Bethesda, MD 20814 or Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.
