Nancy W. Selz
Age 85, of Claymont passed away December 27, 2012.
Mrs. Selz grew up in Lansdowne, PA, was a graduate of Upper Darby High School and Ohio University where she met her husband Hubert. She was a kindergarten teacher at Darley Road School for 20 years, a member of the Delaware State Education Association and the National Education Association. Educating young children brought her great satisfaction. In addition to teaching children the basics, she would take her students to a local farm to learn about the animals and crops.
Mrs. Selz spent her childhood summers on the family farm in Ohio and was a member of the 4-H Club. She was devoted to her dogs and birds. As an owner of one of the first Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers in the country, she was a tireless promoter of the breed and successfully showed her dogs throughout the East Coast. She was an active member of the Wilmington Kennel Club, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America and was the Delaware State Coordinator of the America Federation of Aviculture. A lifetime interest in archaeology led her to join the Archaeological Society of Delaware and oversee an early excavation at Lums Pond. She also enjoyed quilting, hooking rugs and embroidery.
Mrs. Selz was predeceased by her sister Patricia Lewis. She is survived by her husband of 62 years: Hubert Selz; 2 children: Randy Selz of Wilmington and Cheryl Selz of Hockessin; and several nieces and nephews.

I, too, had Mrs. Selz as my kindergarten teacher and I just loved her. I used to like to go back and visit her classroom when I was "older". If I close my eyes, I can still smell her wonderful classroom. : )
R.I.P sweet lady.
