John M. Scharp AGE: 40 • Hockessin John M. Scharp, 40 of Hockessin, DE lost his courageous battle to cancer and peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Born in Wilmington on January 7, 1974, John was a graduate of Concord High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from University of Delaware where he was a member of Sigma Nu Alumni. He earned his Master's Degree from Goldey Beacom College. He was a proud Geico Insurance Agent and operated his independent firm on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington. John was active with USO Delaware and served on the Advisory Council. He was also a member of St. John the Beloved Parish. John will be dearly missed by his wife of 7 years, Anne V. (McDonald) Scharp; his children, Chloe, Noah, Samuel and John Scharp; his mother, Janice (Minutola) Nippes and her husband, Dr. Richard Nippes; his brothers, Chuck Scharp (Erin), Jim Scharp (Laura); his sister, Jennifer Shute (Jason); his step sisters, Kym Nippes (Andy Lewis) and Holly Martinez; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles J. Scharp. John was the best father and his proudest accomplishment was his four children whom he loved with all his heart. If he wasn't spending time with them he would be boating, fishing & crabbing or metal detecting. His favorite thing was time spent during the summer in Fenwick Island on Pine Street. This was his favorite place on earth, referencing it in his own words as "God's World." There is no doubt that he is now on the Pine Street in heaven hanging with his dad. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, April 21 from 4:00-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington on Tuesday, April 22 at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Claire Marie Roeper Skinner AGE: 84 • Wilmington Claire Marie Roeper Skinner of Winston Salem, NC., formerly of Chadds Ford, PA., and Wilmington, DE., passed away on April 9, 2014. Born and raised in Wilmington, Claire was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School. After school she worked for AT&T Bell Telephone. Prior to her retirement she worked many years on the staff of Luther Towers, a retirement facility in Wilmington. In her spare time Claire enjoyed reading, gardening, animal charities, and spending time with her family and friends. She had fond memories of watching her children and grandchildren play on and coach sports teams. She was also fond of vacation traveling throughout her life with her family. She will be remembered for her friendly demeanor, her love of animals, and willingness to help others. Claire was predeceased by her husband, Carlton J. Skinner Jr., and her son, C. James Skinner III, as well as by her brothers, Paul and William Roeper. She is survived by her sisters Carolyn Christy and Jane Anderson of Atlanta GA. She is also survived by her sons, Donald Skinner and his wife Brenda of Huntsville, AL., David Skinner of Winston Salem, NC., and Thomas Skinner and his wife Kelly of West Grove, PA; 8 grandchildren, Michael Skinner, Tracy Dunn, Jessica Lowe, Marie Skinner, DeAnne Skinner, Jackie Holladay, Thomas Skinner and Christopher Skinner and 7 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 9:30am to 10:30am at the MCCRERY AND HARRA FUNERAL HOMES, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE., where a funeral service will begin at 10:30am. Interment will be held at the Silverbrook Memorial Park, Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., DE Chapter 240 N.
