Queen Esther Gardner Malik AGE: 74 • New Castle passed on May 3, 2015 surrounded by her family. Queen was predeceased by her daughter, Vandere Gardner. She leaves cherished memories with her husband, Taqiyy S. Malik; daughter, Pamela Lafate; aunt, Louise Ashley Richardson; 4 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Janazzah Service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Masjid Al Kauthar, 2102 Northeast Blvd., Wilmington at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Silverbrook Cemetery in Wilmington. Marie H. Martin AGE: 91 • Newark Marie H. Martin, age 91 of Newark, DE formerly of Georgetown, DE passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Heartland Hospice Center in Wilmington, DE. Marie worked at Sterwin Laboratory, retiring after many years of service. After retirement she volunteered her time with Delaware Hospice, the Blood Bank of Delmarva and Read Aloud Delaware. She was an avid Bowler and enjoyed Ocean and River boat cruises. She is survived by her sons, Bob and Gerald Martin; daughter, Kathleen Martin; sisters, Bertha and Betty; and grandson, Erik Martin. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 6th at 12:00 noon at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may call after 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to, Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Martin, Mary Jane  
Mary Jane Martin AGE: 80 • New Castle Mary Jane Martin, age 80, of New Castle, DE passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at her daughter and son-in-law's home. Janie was born on June 1, 1934. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Janie was a dedicated employee of the Wilmington Trust Bank in Collections for 40 years. After retirement she loved to stay at home playing music, watching Elvis movies, and feeding her cats. Janie enjoyed going to church. She looked forward to having all her kids over. Janie was a very special person, always thinking of others more than herself. Janie is survived by her 2 daughters, Mary Travilini and Frances Cathcart; 5 grandchildren:Pat(Renee), Richie (Chrissy), Tina (Ray), Shannon, and Jenny; 16 great grandchildren; and Bunny Banning, who was like a sister to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Martin, father, George Fernandez; and mother, Louise Sconziello. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 10- 11 AM at Holy Spirit Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE 19720, followed by a service in celebration of Janie's life at 11 AM. Mintz, Howard Bruce  
Howard Bruce Mintz After a hard-fought struggle, Howard Mintz, passed away early Saturday morning, during the Sabbath, which he had come to love. He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Hedy Mintz; daughters, Michelle Jasper Brody, Ilana Abekasis (Liran) and Rina Mintz; sons, Goel Jasper (Gilla) and Ari Jasper (Lisa); brother, Myron Mintz (Joanne); and grandchildren, Ezra, Tzvi, Tehilla, Temima, Nili, Yitzchak, Hodaya, Yaffa, Anina, Raphael, Theodore and Ruby. Howard was a native of Wilmington, DE. He was born on August 5, 1946 and attended P.S. duPont High School. He left home at 17, went to Santa Rosa Junior College and earned an Associates Degree. Howard eventually graduated from Temple University. He became the consummate businessman, working as a successful sportswear buyer for J.C. Penney, and moving on to run many successful businesses along the way. Ultimately, he made his way back to Delaware, via Pennsylvania and New Jersey. His most recent endeavor, Printcrafters, was jointly run with his loving wife, Hedy, who was always at his side. After selling the business, Howard developed expertise in stock trading and enjoyed days in his home office surrounded by monitors, completing his trades. Howard will be remembered always for his "joie de vivre" and a great sense of humor. His drive to enjoy life permeated his efforts in business and with family and friends. He faced many health challenges but, with Hedy's unending loving support, he managed always to succeed and enjoy life as he helped those around him to do the same. In accordance with Howard's wish, he will be buried in Israel. The family will welcome family and friends during the Shiva period from Tuesday through Sunday. Shiva services will be 7:00 pm Tuesday and Wednesday evening at the late residence; 7:30 pm Thursday evening at Chabad Lubavitch of Delaware, 1811 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19803; 9:10 pm Saturday evening at the late residence; morning services will be 7:00 am Wednesday through Sunday at Chabad Lubavitch of Delaware. Christopher A. Melendez Mullikin AGE: 29 • Newark Christopher A. Melendez Mullikin, age 29, of Newark, DE, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015. Chris earned his GED from New Castle Learning Center in 2003. He then proudly served his country in the US Army Infantry. Chris was a former line cook with Seasons Pizza and Bob Evans Restaurant. He enjoyed working out at the YMCA, playing computer games, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers who had been his favorite team since childhood. Chris had a passion for reptiles, especially snakes. He especially loved his mom whom he considered his best friend and had a special bond with his mom mom. Chris is survived by his mother, Stephanie Treml McClain; 2 sisters, Amanda Melendez and Kayla McClain; grandparents, Edward and Betty Treml; mom mom, Jean Abbott; 2 aunts, Denise Treml and Tracy Truban (David); uncle, Lawrence Mullikin III; 5 cousins: McKenna Mullikin, Madison and Jeremy Polish, and Andrew and Avery Truban. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mullikin; and lifelong childhood best friend, Brandon Schuck. Murphy, George J.  
George J. Murphy AGE: 85 • Wilmington George J. Murphy, 85, of Wilmington, DE peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015. George was born in Wilmington on July 8, 1929, son of the late George A. and Catherine A. (Andrzejewski) Murphy. A veteran of the United States Navy, he proudly served our country during the final period of World War II and the post- World War II era. George was employed with Delmarva Power for 37 years and retired as a field supervisor in 1991. In earlier years, George was involved with the Boy Scouts as a leader and committee member, and also with Junior Achievement of Delaware. He generously volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Community Action Program (CAP) and the Emmanuel Dining Room. He was a dedicated member of St. Matthew's Parish, as well as an active member of the Newark Elks Lodge 2281. George was an avid gardener and took great pride in maintaining his home. He also enjoyed time with his good friends and neighbors from Glen Berne Estates and his good friends in the D.P. & L. and the Browntown Breakfast Clubs. George was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family. George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Etta R. (Marini) Murphy; his children, George Murphy and wife, Anita; Michael Murphy and wife, Carol; Rita Murphy and Mark Murphy and his partner, Kevin O'Hara; his grandchildren, George and wife, Sarah, Christopher and wife, Brenda, Timothy and fiancée, Ladonna, Anne, Jennifer, Katie, and Andrew and wife, Kate; and his great grandchildren, Madeleine and George. He is also survived by his sisters, Marie Fallers, Rita Ogonowski and Cass Hall; sister-in-law Gladys "Sugar" Murphy, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy. George's family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to all of those who helped care for him during his illness; including extended family, friends, neighbors, care givers and medical professionals. Joan M. Murphy Ogden, Pa Joan M. Murphy of Ogden, Pa passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27th. Joan was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Joan attended Holy Saviour School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA. She worked as a nutrition supervisor at Hill Top Elementary School and Crozer-Chester Medical Center, retiring after over 20 years of service. We will miss her beautiful smile and her sparkling blue eyes. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Helena Redmond; Sisters, Kathleen Krieger, Helena French, Patricia Pazdalski; brothers, David and Michael Redmond. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth R. Murphy; daughters, Kim Marie Gland(Spencer) and Patricia A. Valentine(Keith); Grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Gland and Cameron Valentine; Sisters, Margaret Reardon, Rosemary Lindsey; brother, John Redmond. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 4th at 10:30am at St. John Fisher Church in Boothwyn. Friends and family are invited to call from 9:30am-10:30am in church.
