Papa, Ralph J.
Ralph J. Papa Ralph Papa, age 70 of Wilmington, died on March 21, 2015 at Christiana Hospital. A butcher for over 55 years, Ralph proudly owned and operated Papa's Food Market, a family owned business established in 1927. He enjoyed serving quality, premium meats and authentic Italian foods that were designed to satisfy the pickiest of palettes. On a daily basis, he would spend long days behind the meat counter, ensuring that every customer was waited on and provided the outstanding quality that Papa's is still known for today. The Papa's Food Market Legacy remains popular to many across the Tri-State areas. The wide variety of delectable cheeses, olives, homemade sausages, and other specialty items keeps his loyal line of customers returning on a consistent basis. Ralph was playfully referred to as "The Mayor of Sixth Street", where he also managed several properties and maintained communication with his occupants. Ralph was also known as an avid tennis player and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Wilmington as well as the Prince of Piedmont Lodge #475, and was also an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Parker, Dorris V.
Dorris V. Parker AGE: 93 • Hockessin, DE Dorris Vines Parker, age 93, passed away peacefully with family members at her side, March 19, 2015. Dorris was a 45 year resident of Wilmington and Hockessin Delaware, moving there with her husband, the late Donald Chester Parker, a many year employee of Hercules Inc. They moved to this area after Hercules positions at Bessemer AL, Kingston NY, and Olympia WA. Dorris was born in Birmingham Alabama, the daughter of Roberta Sellers Vines and John William Vines. She had two sisters, the late Billie Joyce Vines Fullington, and the late Nell Vines Ferrell, both of Birmingham AL. Dorris attended West End High School where she met her future husband, a football and baseball all star. Dorris was active in the French and Latin clubs, a member of the National Honor Society, graduating with honors, and receiving a partial academic scholarship to Birmingham Southern College, a noted liberal arts school of the Southeast. With the advent of WW2, however, she was unable to attend college and entered the wartime work force at Liberty National Life Insurance Co. in Birmingham. Her husband volunteered for active duty with the Marine Corps, where he served in the South Pacific. Following the war years Dorris became a homemaker in Bessemer AL, raising two sons. It was in this community where she first developed a love of bridge. Summers were spent in vacations to Florida and the Great Smokey Mountains, areas that she loved. After moving to Kingston NY, Dorris became active in a social role to her husbands work as Hercules Plant Manager. She frequently found time to explore the beauties of the Catskills and the Hudson Valley. After moving to Wilmington, where her husband had assumed a position in the Hercules home office, Dorris continued as a family homemaker and assisted in the active care of grandchildren. Many new and long friendships developed in her new Hockessin community, often of the Hercules family. Additionally, she became a routine and frequent visitor to the local library and a prolific reader of novels and nonfiction. She was interested in flowers, trees and nature and loved spring and fall walks in the Dupont gardens of the area. She loved music of all genres and Celtic Dancing. She continued to play bridge as long as partners could be found as she grew older. Up until the last few weeks of her life she remained very active, reading, daily scanning of the Wilmington newspapers, and congressional political support. She was a contributor to local police, law enforcement and fire. Dorris is survived by 2 sons, Dr Chris Parker MD of Atlanta GA, and David Parker of Hockessin, a brother in law Bill E Fullington of Birmingham AL, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Services are being held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Birmingham, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the St Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. For online condolences Please visit Chandlerfuneralhome.com 302-478-7100
