Lewis H. Thomas "Uncle Lew" AGE: 56 • New Castle Lew passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. He was a bricklayer for several area companies. Lew was a 1977 graduate of Delcastle High School. He enjoyed his family, fishing, gardening and riding his Harley. Lew was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Virginia Thomas. He is survived by his daughters, Sabrina Thomas and Dawn Daffern (Eric); his sister, Tina M. Bulloch (Gordon); his brother, Lloyd H. Thomas Jr. (Johnnalyn); his 4 grandchildren; 1 niece and 4 nephew. A gathering for family and friends will be from 7 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, August 5 at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport. Thomas, William A. "Bill"  
William A. "Bill" Thomas AGE: 65 • Harrington William A. "Bill" Thomas III, age 65, of Harrington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Bill was a caring, selfless, hard working man who loved his Lord and Savior. He retired after 46 years of dedicated service as a glass technician. Bill enjoyed fishing, doing crossword puzzles, and reading - especially John Grisham books. He also liked watching movies with Superman and Smokey and the Bandit being his favorites. Most of all Bill loved being a PawPaw. His granddaughter was called William's pride and joy. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ella Thomas; daughter, Tamara Thomas (Franklin); son, William Thomas IV; granddaughter, Brianna; brother, Charles Thomas (Debbie); sister, Suzanne Thomas; nephews, Chuck and Cary; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jr. and Gloria Thomas. A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 1:30-3 PM in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Bill's life at 3 PM. Thompson, Ethel J.  
Ethel J. Thompson AGE: 97 • Greenville, SC Ethel J. Thompson passed away peacefully on July 28, 2015 at the age of 97 at Greenville Glen Assisted Living, Greenville, South Carolina. Ethel was born in 1918 to Stanley and Dora Beers in Fair hill, Maryland. After graduating from Calvert High School, Ethel attended Goldey Beacom Business College. Upon graduating, she worked as a secretary for the DuPont Company and married William Batten, Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Woodmansee (Don) of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Joanne Bramble (Ken) of Falcon, Colorado; four grandchildren, Lisa Wyatt (Ed) of Rising Sun, Maryland, Mark Woodmansee (Anh) of Houston, Texas, Michael Woodmansee (Aline) of Yuzhno-Sakalinsk, Russia, and Ken Bramble, Jr., of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She also has four great grandchildren, Jennifer Botta (Vinnie) and Jessica Wyatt of Rising Sun, MD; Maya and Clinton Woodmansee of Houston, Texas; and five great great grandchildren, Gabby, Zach, Brock, and Xander Botta and Mason Wyatt. She was predeceased by her husbands William Batten, Jr., John Banta, and Hayes Thompson; by her daughter Elizabeth "Betty" Case; a grandson, George Case, Jr., and two sisters, Laura Poole and Helen Wilkinson. After 26 years of service, Ethel retired from the DuPont Company. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing the piano, gardening, sewing, and quilting. She was a lifetime member of the Newark Senior Center and the Red Hat Society. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 from 1:30 - 2:30 pm, followed by service at 2:30 pm at R.T. Tjaden, Barbara Ann  
Barbara Ann Tjaden Barbara Ann Tjaden, age 61 of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 21, 2015 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. At no point did she waver in her strong will, fighting spirit, and unconditional consideration for loved ones. Barbara was born in Wilmington on June 12, 1954, daughter of the late Catherine (Modrzejewski) and Edward Schmidt, Sr. Kind, generous, and compassionate, she was like an angel to those fortunate to have known her. Barbara was defined by her big heart and immense selflessness. She bettered the lives of all those she encountered. Barbara was an endlessly loving and devoted homemaker, finding notable pride in always having meals prepared for loved ones. She was an amazing mother and also possessed the deepest adoration for her grandchildren. Barbara also had a love for dancing. Barbara is survived by her husband of 41 years, Kenneth R. Tjaden, Sr; children, Jennifer Tjaden-McMenamin (Mark), Kenneth Jr, Timothy, and Melinda; grandchildren, Sabrina, Justine, Tabitha, Brianna, Cameron, Isabella, Layla, Skye, Zackary, and Preston; siblings, Edward Jr, Richard, Robert, Carol, Ronald, Thomas, Gerald, Marsha, Charlotte, Deborah; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wozniak, Dr. Varadarajan, and Dr. Jeanetta Y. Son for the exemplary care given to Barbara. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th and Bancroft in Wilmington, on Monday morning, July 27 at 10am. Visitation and Committal Services will be held privately. Todd, Patricia A.  
Patricia A. Todd AGE: 72 • Smyrna Patricia A. Todd, age 72, of Smyrna, DE, passed away after a long battle with breast cancer on July 26, 2015 at her home with her husband and daughter by her side. Mrs. Todd was born July 27, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of the late Robert and Effa Hagy. Patricia retired in 1997 from AstraZeneca as an Accounts Receivable Clerk. She enjoyed line dancing with her husband for the last 24 years. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandsons and spoiling them. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard; her daughter, Michelle Sharp and her husband Raymond of Newark, DE; two grandchildren, Justin and Alex Sharp; her brothers, Skip Hassel of Claymont, DE, Ed Hassel and his wife Maria of Wilmington, DE and Paul Hassel also of Wilmington; two sisters, Pam Petrucelli of Wilmington and Penny Barkley and her husband Bill of Wyoming, DE.
