Strickler, Diane O'Dell
Diane O'Dell Strickler, Former DuPont Director AGE: 73 • Rehoboth Beach, DE Diane O'Dell Strickler, age 73, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016, after a stoic battle with brain cancer. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Diane made Delaware her home for over 50 years. She and her beloved husband, Ed, first moved to Wilmington in 1964 after a whirlwind courtship that started with a blind date. They arrived with only $20 and two old dressers to their name. The very definition of pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps, Diane started her first job at Phoenix Steel and quickly became the data processing supervisor. After she took time off to raise her family, Diane entered the work force once again in 1982 and had a very successful career at DuPont. She started out as a temporary programmer and, through hard work and innate talent, rose to the Director of Information Systems. Upon retirement, she and Ed made Rehoboth Beach their home, eventually spending their winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. Never one to keep still for long, Diane made the most of her retirement by becoming a CASA volunteer for abused and neglected children and joining the Board of Directors of Rehoboth Beach Country Club. There was still time for leisure, though, and Diane indulged in many of her loves: spending time with her grandchildren, reading, cooking, Pilates, and playing trivia. The breadth of her trivia knowledge was truly astounding, and even until the very end of her life, she was able to shout out most of the answers on Jeopardy. Diane's dedication to her family was second to none, always putting her family's needs before her own to make sure those around her were loved and cared for first. She somehow made being a mother and wife with a full time job seem effortless. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 52 years, Edward Strickler; her daughters, Kirsten Scoggin (Charles) and Catherine Gaul (Christopher); and her grandchildren, Eliza, Charlie, Delaney and Henry. By every measure Diane led a very successful and fulfilling life, and her friends and former colleagues are invited to come celebrate her life at a Requiem Eucharist and reception to be held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 E. Buck Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19807. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Friends of Sussex CASA, P.O. Box 304, Milton, DE 19968, or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
