AGE: 89 • Wilmington

Albert J. DiMattia passed away peacefully on June 9, 2014. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School. Albert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having been awarded the prestigious Purple Heart for his service during WWII. Following the war, he worked in construction for over 20 years in North Wilmington and the Media, PA area. He then worked for the DuPont Company for 23 years before retiring in 1988. Albert had a passion for cars, enjoyed gardening, and loved to dance. He was also a proud member of the Italian American community, finding joy in attending the St. Anthony of Padua Italian Festival. Above all else, Albert was devoted to his family and found his greatest joy in the company of loved ones, notably cherishing time spent with his grandchildren.

Albert was the beloved husband to the late Armedia C. Accorsi-DiMattia. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Rose Mele, Jean DiBiase, Mary Dominco, and Lisa DiNenno; and brothers, Samuel and Joseph DiMattia. He is survived by his two daughters, Marilyn Migliaccio (Samuel) and Sharon Whitfield; granddaughters, Christine, Olivia, and Stephanie Whitfield; sister, Julia Young; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Sts. in Wilmington, on Monday morning, June 16 at 10:30am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday morning, prior to mass, from 9-10:15am.
