Alexander H. Belmonte

Age 78, of Millsboro, DE passed away on Sunday, February 17th at Cadia Rehab Center in Wilmington, DE. He was born in Uruguay, South America to Alfonso and Maria Belmonte. He attended St. Anthony's elementary school, graduated from St. James High School with the class of 1952. He later went on to graduate from Mt. St. Mary's College with a bachelor of science degree in 1956. He was a teacher at Pulaski Jr. High School(Chester), Newark school district in Delaware and retired from Pitman High School in New Jersey. During his time teaching he was a State Champion golf coach and a yearbook and class advisor.

Alex was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Amvets, Post 2, the American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the St. James Alumni Association, Indian River Senior Citizens and the Mt. St. Mary's Alumni Association. He was a manager and officer in the Chester Teener Baseball League, was a board member of the DELCO Hall of Fame, member of the PA Hall of Fame, Officer at the former Lloyd A.C. and Lenni A.C., a founding parishioner at St. John Fisher Church and a parish council member. One of his greatest achievements was being awarded the Brute Medal from Mt. St. Mary's University in 2006. He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, gardening, reading, the Delaware shore, 50's music, Italian food and a good hoagie or steak sandwich. What he enjoyed most however, was time spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Robert Dunham of Upper Chichester; and grandchildren, Hannah, Joshua, Emma and Sophia.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 22nd at 10:30am at Holy Saviour Church in Linwood, PA. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday evening from 6-7:30pm and again on Friday morning from 9-10am at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St., Linwood, Pa . In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be sent to Mt. St. Mary's University, Class of '56 Scholarship, Attn: Advancement Office, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
