Alexander Samuel Markward

Age 19, of Claymont, DE, passed away tragically on Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Hachinohe City, Japan in a car accident.

Born in Newark, DE, Alexander was the son of Thomas H. and Marianne K. (Major) Markward. He was serving his country proudly as an Airman First Class in the US Air Force since his graduation from St. Mark's High School.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Thomas and Marianne Markward; his brothers, Thomas H. Markward, Jr. of Wilmington and Jude W. Hughes of West Chester, PA; his sisters, Jessica S. Maxwell and her husband Gary of Claymont and Jennifer Markward of Coral Springs, FL. Also surviving are two nieces, Aubrey and Tatiana; his maternal grandfather, Stephan Major of Hungary; his paternal grandmother, Helen Markward of North Wildwood, NJ; his aunts, Susan Fitzwater (Paul) and Isabella Ilg (Roland); his uncles, Stephan Major, Jr. (Elizabeth), Garrett Markward and Charles Markward; and two cousins, Nicole and Paul Fitzwater, Jr.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, September 3rd between 6 and 8 PM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Interment will be private.
