Andrew P. Shields

Andrew P. Shields, age 88, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2013.

Born in Atlantic City, NJ, he was the son of the late Ethel (Tocik) and William A. Shields II. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Antoinette R. (Mirabella) Shields. He is survived by his daughter Andrea M. Starr and her husband Tom; his son, Andrew J. and his wife Carmela; his grandchildren, Angus J. and Jacqualine A. Shields. He is also survived by siblings: Cecilia F. Creedon, Joseph C. Shields, Mary V. Diggins (John), Albert P. Shields, Sr. (Nancy), Patricia C. Smith (Howard); and in-laws Jean Shields, Joseph Mirabella, Samuel (Lee) Mirabella, and Paul Mirabella.

He was a 1943 Graduate of Salesianum High School and then enlisted in the Navy. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he pursued Accounting studies at Goldey Beacom and the University of Delaware. He worked for the City of Wilmington during the Mayor John Babiarz administration and for the State of Delaware as an accountant.

He was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church and he was also a member of the choir at the Cathedral of St. Peter.

We will miss his sense of humor, his whistling, his singing, his storytelling, and all the love he shared. We will remember him most for his generosity.

The viewing will be on Sunday, July 21 between 6 and 8 pm at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOMES, 3924 Concord Pike. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 22 at 11 am at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 28th and N. Monroe, Wilmington, DE 19802. Burial will be at Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to: Christ Our King, 2810 N. Monroe St. or to the Cathedral of St. Peter, 500 N. West St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
