Axel A. Anderson Jr.
Age 74, of Felton, DE and formerly of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 30, 2011.
Born of a Swedish immigrant and an Irish immigrant, the late Axel A. Anderson Sr. and Evelyn Hogan Anderson of Middletown, both deceased. Axel was a loving husband for fifty years to Patricia Mullen Anderson.
Axel was a patriot who proudly served his country in the United States Navy
, mostly in the New Zealand area in the 1950s.
He and Patsy were married in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Middletown, DE on May 30, 1961. They were blessed with three children, Dean C. Anderson, Terri L. Anderson both of Felton, DE and Kristin A. Anderson of Miami, FL and have enjoyed three grandchildren, Brett Johnson, Brittany and Logan Anderson and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Mason Johnson.
Home family gatherings was one of Axel's favorite activities. Hunting, boating and fishing were his lifetime enjoyment. One of his favorite pastimes was target shooting with his buddies Bill and Ray. He loved joking with and teasing everyone.
He was a graduate of Delaware City High School in 1959 and then started his career at Avisun in Delaware City. He then started his own Electrical Contracting business which he enjoyed for more than 10 years. He entered the public sector as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds of the Capital School District in Dover, DE. He retired after twenty some years of service to become a consultant for Smyrna and Lake Forest School Districts.
Axel was a very creative person who enjoyed woodworking and waterfowl carving.
He was preceded in death by his parent, Axel and Evelyn Anderson; his three brothers, Ronald, Jack and Robert; two sisters, Helen Anderson and Anne Clarke and his beloved black lab "Pat."
In addition to his loving wife and children, he is survived by a sister, Francis Reece and her husband, Thomas of Greensboro, NC.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, January 4, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered noon on Thursday, January 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street in Middletown, where friends may also visit with his family one hour prior to Mass. Interment with full military honors will follow at Delaware Veterans
Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
