AGE: 82 • Longwood, FL

Former Smyrna, DE resident Bernard V. "Bernie" Davis passed away at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL near his home in Longwood, FL on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Mr. Davis was born on November 13, 1931 in Britt, Iowa to Frank and Bertha Davis. He proudly served in The United States Navy aboard the USS Kittiwake during the Korean War where he was a Fireman and a Master Welder. Mr. Davis was the owner of the Davis Bus Company in Stanton, Delaware until his retirement in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle of Longwood, FL; his children, Wendell (Elaine) Davis of Pike Creek, DE, Theresa (Fred) Clayton of Wilmington, DE and Shirley (Brian) Jefferis of Glasgow, DE; step children, Karen M. Morris and Steven D. Morris of Longwood, FL. Bernie was the very proud grandfather of Freddy (Colleen) and Jessica Clayton of Wilmington, DE, Amber (Cyle) Sapp of Blakely, GA, Danyelle VanEiken (Kris) of Princeton, MA, Angie (Brian) Giroud and Ryan Miller of Newark, DE, Riley and Whitney Morris of Longwood, FL. Great grandfather to Kali Wentzell, Mackenzie Sapp, Cassidy Clayton, Gabriel Thomas, Aaron, Lily and Cameron Giroud. Sisters, Linda (Dick) Kissner, Betty Frasier and Bonnie Sass. Mr. Davis was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth.

Bernie was loved by many and made friends as quickly as he could flash a smile. He was an avid outdoorsman, traveler, lover of sushi, life of the party and a complete flirt. He told fantastic jokes, and was a loving and supportive husband, father and doting grandfather. There was nothing he loved more than his family.

A memorial service and family visitation will be held on June 10th from 6:30PM-8PM at Love of Christ Church, 2157 Bear-Corbitt Road, Bear, Delaware. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Bernie's name to Hospice of the Comforter, 480 W. Central Pkwy., Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 OR Sunday Breakfast Mission at 110 N. Poplar St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
