Charles "Chuck" W. Esper

AGE: 80 • Wilmington

Charles "Chuck" William Esper, age 80 of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 30th.

Chuck was born on September 9, 1933 in Altoona, PA, the son of the late Charles G. and Margaret (Corl) Esper. He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1951 and attended The King's College and the University of Delaware. Chuck was a Navy Cadet and piloted aircraft on the USS Antietam.

In 1958, he married Barbara Edwards and was blessed with four children. He took great joy in his family and enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's games and events. He was an avid sports and music enthusiast. Chuck was proficient in playing the baritone horn, trumpet and trombone; he also sang in the choir as a long-standing and active member of Faith Baptist Church. Chuck took interest in gathering genealogical records so he could preserve his family's history and pass this knowledge on to the next generation.

Chuck retired from Star Enterprises in 1995 after 33 years of service at the Delaware City Refinery where he was a foreman in the blending unit.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55-plus years, Barbara (Edwards) Esper; his children, Shelly Donald, Bruce Esper (Cheryl), Teri Leager (Jeff) and Matthew Esper (Lise); his grandchildren: Sean, Courtney, Jeffrey, Taylor, Samantha, Julianna, Colton, Brady, Macey and Ryan; and his sister, Joyce Esper.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Rose Esper and Virginia Croft.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Faith Baptist Church, 4210 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:00am. Interment will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Wilmington VA Medical Center, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805 or to Faith Baptist Church, 4210 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.
