Dolores Delphine Wasno
Age 80, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 28, 2013 following a 26 year struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Born and raised in Nanticoke, PA, Dolores was a 1954 graduate from the School of Nursing at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. On May 10, 1958, she married Leon S. Wasno, moved to Delaware, and resided in Elsmere. She was employed as a nurse for many years at General Motors
Boxwood Plant. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Mary (Plodwick) Cheklinski; her sister, Carmella Szczucki; and brother, Claude.
Dolores is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Leon. She was "Mom" to sons, Greg and his wife, Denise, and Gary. She was "Babci" to grandchildren, Matthew of Charlotte, NC, Zachary, and Kaitlyn Wasno. She was "Dodie/Aunt Dodie" to several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She was affectionately called "Mrs. Waz" by her sons' closest friends.
The family will be eternally grateful to the staff and volunteers at Delaware Hospice for their extraordinary dedication and compassionate care given to Dolores. You brightened her days and became an extension of our family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, 901 New Rd., Elsmere, DE 19805, on Friday, April 5, at 12 noon. Friends may call at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere on Friday morning from 10-11:30 am. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington.
