Donald T. McKeever

Donald T. McKeever, age 87, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of North East, MD, and Middletown, DE, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Veronica Barry "Vera" McKeever.

Mr. McKeever served in the U.S. Coast Guard, Merchant Marine Division, during World War II. He retired as a salesman for Pratt and Lambert Paints, where "he became his customers' salesman". Mr. McKeever loved to sing and was a member of Schola Canturum at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the choir at St. Jude Catholic Church, and the Middletown Chorale. He was very active in his community and had been a mentor at North East Elementary School, as well as a volunteer for Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation. Mr. McKeever loved Irish music and enjoyed boating and fishing.

Survivors include his beloved companion, Dottie Covington; his children, Timothy D. McKeever, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jean M. Gallagher and husband, Jim, Wilmington, DE, David P. McKeever and wife, Ann Marie, Newark, DE, Christopher McKeever and wife, Kathy, Auburn, WA, and Mary M. Coulter, Chesapeake City, MD; grandchildren, Meghan Gallagher and husband, Roger Gill, Kate Gallagher, Chris McKeever, Courtney McKeever, Kevin McKeever, and Erin Coulter; brother, Richard McKeever, Lawrenceville, NJ; and sister-in-law, Rose McKeever, Trenton, NJ.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Private interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation, in care of Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921.
