Dorothy J. Robin
Dorothy J. Robin, age 70, of Smyrna, Delaware, and formerly of Yorklyn, Delaware, died on November 13, 2012, at Delaware Hospice Center.
Dorothy graduated from Middletown High School in 1960 and attended the Goldy Beacom School of Business, the University of Delaware and the University of Minnesota
graduating with a degree in Sociology in 1970. She was a licensed pilot, a stewardess for American Airlines, a counselor at the State of Delaware Psychiatric Emergency Services and worked for and retired as a social worker for the Delaware Child Protective Services (now Department of Services for Children, Youth, and their Families). Upon retirement, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Mary Eugenia Smith of Middletown, her brother Henry James Smith, and her younger sister Linda Cramer. She is survived by her daughters Julia Christie-Robin and Cindy Montejo and her husband Jeffrey; her brothers David Smith and his wife Pat, Paul Smith and his wife Cathy, Michael Smith, and Tim Smith and his wife Deirdre; her grandchildren Elana, Mya, and Fiona; by numerous nieces and nephews, most notably Jennifer Cramer who resided with her; and by wonderful lifelong friends.
She was a lifelong feminist and supporter of child welfare. She will be remembered for her incredible pies, her beautiful fudge and for her honesty and integrity. She will be remembered by her granddaughters for her frequent trips to Friendly's and the toy store, singing "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean," and for her wonderful cookie-making sleepovers. Like her mother, she found incredible joy in spending time with babies and children. Dorothy was a participant in the Incyte clinical studies for treatment of myelofibrosis.
A memorial service will be held for Dorothy at 3:00pm on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the UU Society of Mill Creek, 579 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, Delaware. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the non-profit Delaware Hospice. Donations can be sent via their website or to Delaware Hospice - 3515 Silverside Road Wilmington, Delaware 19810.
