Dorothy V. Maxwell
Age 86 of Union Park Gardens, Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 5, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Hobson) Shaw.
Dorothy spent her working life for many years at Joy Trimming Co. She was an "icon" of Sycamore Street for the last 34 years and was known by many neighbors and friends, all of which will surely miss her. She was devoted to her family all of her life. She was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a devoted neighbor who took great pride in the appearance of her block.
Dorothy was predeceased by her sons, David and Kenny. She is survived by her children, Beverly Newirth and her husband Larry, Carol Bruno and her husband Joseph, and William Maxwell; grandchildren, Heather, Kenny Jr., Ryan, and Macy; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Paige, and Brian; niece and nephew, Linda Prang and Mark Shaw; and many friends and neighbors who cared for her deeply. Special gratitude is extended to her neighbors, Elaine Henderson, Mario and Erin Roca, and Emily Walsh; and her friend, Betty Lou Kivler.
The family also wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Christiana Emergency Room and Manor Care Nursing Home (Limestone Rd.) for their attentive and compassionate care of Dorothy.
A Funeral Service will be held at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington, on Friday, April 12 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery (www.silverbrookcemetery.com
