Earle E. Marvel, 87, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Claymont, DE and Chester, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Heartland Hospice House.
A graduate of Claymont High School, class of 1944, Earle was proud to have been chosen President of not only his high school class, but his college class as well. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy
, having served our country during World War II
. Earle worked as a teacher at Claymont High School, and then joined the DuPont Company. He was briefly employed with the Shell Chemical Company before returning to the DuPont Company, retiring from their Chambers Works Plant.
Earle was a long time member of the Granite-Corinthian Masonic Lodge #34 and a former member of Atonement United Methodist Church in Claymont, Cedars Church and Marshallton United Methodist Church, where he was on various committees including being the chairperson of Trustees. He enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife, Martena, woodworking, gardening and spending quality family time.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Martena Workman Marvel.
Earle will be lovingly remembered by his children, Joyce Marvel Kessler, Glenn Marvel and Terryn Mozer; his grandchildren, Michael Kaminski, Mary Kathryn Cole and Larry Beatson, Jr., Alex Marvel and wife, Joanna, and Kelly Marvel; and his great grandchildren, Steven Barry III and Jacob Barry. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Carpenter; and his brother-in-law, William Workman, Jr.
Friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Saturday, May 17 from 11:00AM-12:00PM. A Masonic service will begin at 12:00PM, with funeral services to follow. Interment will be held privately for his family.
