Edward Swanson, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on November 5, 2012, at Seasons Hospice.
Ed, the son of Arthur and Ella Swanson, was born in Philadelphia, PA and graduated from John Bartram High School, where he met his wife Ella Jackson. Ed, a WWII
naval veteran, enlisted in 1942 and served 3 years as a gunner all over the United States and Cuba. Ed and Ella spent the early part of their marriage in Holmes, PA and moved to Delaware in 1968. Ed worked for 33 years for the News Journal Company, starting with the Morning News edition of the paper.
Ella, wife of 67 years, and brother, Arthur Swanson predeceased Ed. Ed is survived by his sisters, Ella (Joseph) Ciocco and Doris (Paul) Staudenmayer; his daughters, Elizabeth (Timothy) Best of Wilmington, DE, Susan (Marianne) Swanson of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Amy (Christopher) Ward of Wilmington, DE. Also surviving Ed are his grandchildren, Timothy Best, Katherine (William) Bradshaw, Jessica Ward and Matthew Ward, and his great-grandson Liam Bradshaw.
A service for Ed will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 17 at the MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Friends are invited to call after 12 noon.
