Elizabeth M. Ashby (nee Shultz), age 82, of Magnolia, DE, formerly of Wilmington, passed away on March 26, 2014. Born and raised in Wilmington, Elizabeth was a graduate of P. S. DuPont High School Class of 1949. She was parishioner at Cathedral Church of St. John, where she was active with the Altar Guild. Before retiring in 2001, Elizabeth had worked at the Brandywine Y.M.C.A. in Membership Relations for many years. In her spare time, Elizabeth enjoyed gardening, doing water aerobics classes at the Y.M.C.A., and reading, as well as completing jigsaw puzzles. She had fond memories of spending time each summer at the Ashby Family Reunions in Keyser, W.V. Elizabeth was a loving and doting mom and grandmom, who cherished going on annual family vacations, as well as spending time with her grandchildren, whether it was cheering them on at their swim meets or baking special treats with them. She will be remembered for her patient, loving and caring spirit, as well as her great smile and good cooking.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Chester C. Ashby, as well as her brother, John Thomas Shultz. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara E. Blaier, and her husband, Scott, of Magnolia, DE; her step-son, Gary R. Ashby, and his wife, Liz, of North East, MD; her daughter-in-law, Sarah Ashby of North East, MD; her sisters, Beatrice Shinn and Helen Pierce; and her sister-in-law, Polly Shultz. Elizabeth was also survived by her grandchildren, Stephen Ashby; Cheryl Russell and her husband, Brian; and Elyse and Benjamin Blaier, as well as 2 great- grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Monday, March 31st from 11 A.M. to 12 Noon in the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803, where a funeral service will begin at 12 Noon. Interment will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
