Age 77 of Seaford, passed away on January 14, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Hospital.
Born in Laurel, she is the daughter of the late Harry and Flossie LeCates. Evelyn was a 1954 graduate of Laurel High School. She married her loving husband on June 2, 1956, and has been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Seaford since 1956. She was an Assistant Sunday School teacher for many years, a 4H Leader for over forty-two years, and a member of the Women's Homemaker Club. Evelyn was one of the founding members of the First State Antique Tractor Club, and served on the Delaware Farm Bureau Women's Committee. She was an active member in the Laurel Alumni Association, and was a polling judge during the elections. Evelyn also enjoyed playing card, games, taking care of her beautiful roses, and was wonderful at entertaining. She especially loved Christmas and passed many traditions on to her family.
Most importantly, Evelyn will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was very precious to her and was always her first priority.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, LeRoy A. Messick of Seaford. Two sons; Allen Messick and his wife Sondra, and Kirk Messick and his wife Susan. Five grandchildren; Jessica Kinsell and her husband Kenny, Rob Bagwell, Ashley Messick, Morgan Messick, and Emily Messick. Two great grandchildren; Dalton, and Chase Kinsell. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sibling; Howard LeCates, Melvin LeCates, Erma Greenwalt, Ruth Hearn.
A funeral service will be held at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home 700 West Street Laurel, Delaware 19956 on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00 were a viewing will be held from 10-11:00 am. A viewing will also be held Friday evening at the funeral home from 6-8:00 pm. The Pastor Joe Kelley will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Laurel.
