Frances Romaine McKinney Gibison

Frances R. Gibison, age 86, passed away on May 15, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family.

Fran was born in York, PA on March 24, 1927. She attended St. Mary's Parochial School in York, St. Peter's Cathedral School and was a 1945 graduate of Wilmington High School. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Parish for 59 years where she had been a member of the B.V.M. Sodality, the Parish Council and helped to organize and run the Parish Outreach to serve those in need. She was also instrumental in the formation of the Cleland Heights Civic Association, writing its newsletter and organizing neighborhood events. Fran was a Democratic Committee Woman and received letters of gratitude from both President John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy for work during their campaigns. She was a 50-year member of the Women's Club-Delaware. What Fran enjoyed most was spending holidays, vacations and special occasions with family, sharing stories, good times, laughter and good food.

Fran was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Gibison Sr., with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her son, Robert A. Gibison, daughter-in-law Mary Jane (O'Neill) Gibison, parents, Frank L. and Cora A. (Staub) McKinney, her sister Charlotte McKinney and nephew, John Mowen. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas F. Gibison Jr., Mark and Sharon Gibison, Mary Beth and Donald Copson, Richard and Natalie Gibison, and Daniel Gibison; her grandchildren, Rosanne Tray and husband Kevin, Christopher and Stephen Copson, Kathleen and Kelly Gibison, Kristin Kabatt and husband Larry, Mark and Aimee Gibison, Sarah and Laura Gibison, Thomas F. Gibison III and by great grandsons, Alex Kabatt, and Andrew and Patrick Tray.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth's Church, Cedar and S. Clayton Streets, Wilmington on Monday, May 20, at 10 am. Friends may call at DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, from 5-7 pm on Sunday evening, May 19. Burial will be in St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Cemetery.
