Gaetano "Irvin" Maiorano, age 87, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving children and family.

Born in Marshallton, DE, Gaetano was the son of the late Giovanni and Maria Domenica (Lambisi) Maiorano. He was a life member of St. Matthew's Church and St. John the Beloved Church. He was a devoted husband for 59 years to his beloved wife, Regina "Jeannie" (Celano) Maiorano, who passed away in 2008.

The true joy and happiness in his life was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and many friends. His life of devotion to his cherished family began as a young man working with his brothers and sisters running the Maiorano Market, Maiorano Liquors, and Ted's Liquors in Belvedere.

Gaetano was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II, achieving several medals for good conduct and service to his country. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of Minquas Fire Company #1, receiving awards for Merit of Service over the years.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Carmen, John, Frank, Lucrezia "Grace", Anna, Joseph "George", Sabatino "Sam" and Rose. Gaetano is survived by his daughters, Maria and husband, Dennis Harrington with whom he lived, and Regina and husband, Larry Swift of Middletown, DE; his sons, Anthony of Wilmington, and Carmen and wife, Peggy of Wilmington; his granddaughters, Lisa and husband, Ken Doak, Laura and husband, Andrew Krueck, and Maggie and fiancé, Eric Petka; his grandson, Nicholas Swift; his great grandchildren, Jenna Doak and Oskar Krueck; and his extended children, LuAnn Barnes (Harrington), Teri Harrington, and Gale Stevens.

He is also survived by a brother-in-law; several sisters-in-law; and many, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Uncle Irv will be dearly missed by all, including his loving nieces, Theresa Theodore and Florence Scorsone who, along with his children, provided comfort and care during his transition to eternal life.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Monday, November 11 from 11:00AM-1:00PM. A Service of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00PM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
