Gary Merle Vagle

Gary Merle Vagle, age 75, of Hockessin, DE went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2013 after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Gary was born in Hallock, MN on April 24, 1938 to the late Clifford and Agnes Vagle. After graduating from high school in Lancaster, MN, Gary attended Evangel College in Springfield, MO where he was Student Body President during his senior year. He graduated in 1960 with a BA degree in Secondary Education.

In June of 1960, Gary married Thomasine L. Hoge in The Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA. He then taught English at Central Junior High in Newark, DE until he obtained his Masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of Delaware. Gary retired in 1997 after having served as Assistant Principal in three schools in the Christina School District: Central Jr. High, Cobbs/ Gauger, and Kirk Middle School.

Gary was passionate about serving the Lord as the Follow-up Minister at Parkview Assembly of God. He went on many mission trips including Peru, Nicaragua, Kenya, Nigeria and Romania and was a father figure to many people. He was dedicated to serving others in need and helped at the Food Bank of Delaware.

Besides his wife of 53 years, Gary is survived by his daughter, Kendra D. Metcalf and husband Stephen of Augusta, GA and his son Kirk D. Vagle and wife Heidi of Cecilton, MD. He is also survived by his 2 brothers: Rodney L. Vagle and wife Ruth Ann of Minneapolis, MN and Daniel C. Vagle and wife LaVonne of Colorado Springs, CO and 5 grandchildren: Kyle and Kody Vagle, Zachary, Madison and Colby Metcalf and one great-grandchild, Zephaniah Vagle.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Parkview Assembly of God, 235 Polly Drummond Hill Rd., Newark, DE 19711 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, October 17 from 10:00 to 11:00a.m. followed by a service in celebration of Gary's life at 11:00. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gary's memory can be sent to Parkview Assembly of God Children's Ministry.
