Gino J. Mauro

Passed away peacefully at his home on June 7, 2014. Gino was born in Wilmington on June 20, 1925, son of the late Carmen and Theresa (Nicoletti) Mauro.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy
, he served his country with honor and valor during WWII
, having served in Iwo Jima. He was a longtime electrical technician, offering over 43 years of exemplary service with Pennsylvania Railroad and Amtrak.Along with his devoted wife, Kathaline, he was a devout member of St. Helena's Church and also enjoyed memberships with the VFW
, Italian American Club of Delaware, O.S.I.A. Giuseppe Verdi Club, and the Italian Culture of Padua.
He enjoyed gardening, playing Bingo, and frequenting the Sellers Senior Center where he especially enjoyed playing Pinochle with friends. Gino found joy in traveling and spent many summers at a vacation home in Cape May, NJ, as well as spending winters in Naples, FL., for 25 years, presiding over the local Bocce courts. Above all else, Gino was unconditionally devoted to his family. He treasured time spent with loved ones and notably possessed the deepest adoration for his grandchildren.
Gino is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Katharine (Faline) Mauro; children, Joseph Gino Mauro (Ruthea Miller), Tina Mauro Golt, and GiNina Mauro Bowers; grandchildren, Jason Golt, Adam Golt, Caitlin Bowers, and Ashley Bowers; sister, Connie Luberti; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother and two sisters, and parents-in-law, Dominick and Florence (Wallace) Faline.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Helena Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, on Wednesday, June 11 at 12noon. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday morning, prior to mass, from 10-11:45am.
